Subtle Energy, or Chi, refers to life force – the vital force that animates and organizes life. The fluid and bountiful flow of subtle energy produces vitality and good health, giving us the spirit we need to fulfill our goals and pursue our passion. Energy flows in the body through channels called meridians, is collected and transformed in energy centers called Chakras, and radiates through a field of energy around the body called the Aura. Since the flow of energy creates the underlying template of health, when flow is disrupted, it can cause physical and emotional symptoms. Energy flow can be disrupted by injury, habitual tension, mental attitudes, limiting beliefs, and emotional trauma. When using Energy Medicine as part of a therapeutic plan, the goal is to shift the underlying energy patterns creating optimal conditions for healing.
Any type of treatment that connects with the energy aspect of the body is and Energy Medicine modality. Acupuncture, acupressure, Reiki, Reflexology, chakra balancing, homeopathy and frequency healing are all energy modalities.
Here are a few modalities used at the Andrews Healing Arts Clinic.
Scents from essential oils have an amazing capacity to elicit reactions in areas of the brain to promote health and well being. Aromas work by affecting the limbic system, the part of the brain that processes emotions and behavior and stores them in long term memory. Consequently, aromas can reveal old emotionally charged memories allowing the release of past events. Aromatherapy also employs the healing action of the herb from which the oil is derived. Depending on the property of the plant, aromatherapy produces stimulating or sedating effects. The impact of essential oils is directly related to the quality and purity of the oils used.
Aromatherapy can be a part of any treatment session. Scents are added to massage oils, put in diffusers, or applied directly to acupuncture points. Care need to be taken in case of allergy or scent sensitivity. Inform practitioners if this is the case for you.
Energy Awakening holds the space for you to feel the flow of energy that connects the deepest part of you with the external world. You are invited to dissolve resistance and feel the unresolved emotions that direct your life and impact your health, wealth and creative spirit. Through your willingness to feel your body wakes up and your awareness expands. Grounding, centering and developing boundaries become second nature. This practice employs multiple forms of energy work including the modalities listed below and more.
The concept of Chakras comes from the Vedic tradition of India. The Chakras are energy centers in the body responsible for maintaining balance between our internal spirit and the external world. Each Chakra represents a specific developmental stage and presents us with a life challenge. Meeting and fulfilling the challenges of all the Chakras allows us to live a meaningful life as we work toward self-realization.
Chakra balancing consists of modulating the flow of energy in and through the Chakras through a variety of methods: the hands of the practitioner, sound, symbols or other means. This modality usually incorporates work with emotions, beliefs and attitudes.

Reflexology is more than a good foot or hand rub. Activating specific zones and points on the feet and hands activates a healing response from the nervous system in related organs and areas of the body. Consequently, the whole body is treated through reflex points located on the feet and hands. This treatment is non-invasive and incredibly relaxing while promoting health and wellbeing.
Reflexology is performed by using the hands, fingers, thumbs and knuckles to apply pressure to specified reflex points. Precise techniques are used to stimulate, sedate, or balance a particular area. A session can be performed with the receiver lying on a table or sitting in a special reflexology chair and can be combined with sound therapy, aromatherapy and other modalities.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for increasing the flow of healing energy into and through the body. It is a simple, natural and safe method of healing that everyone can use. It reduces stress, produces relaxation and promotes healing. Like other forms of Energy Medicine, it is based on the idea that life force flows in, through and around us. When the flow is restricted, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress; when free moving, we are more capable of happiness and health. It is safe to use with every illness and in conjunction with other medical treatments. It creates a relaxing time out, and optimizes internal conditions for healing.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. Therefore, Reiki means spiritually guided life force energy. Treatments can be conducted by the therapist placing his or her hands on areas of imbalance on the body or in the energy field around the body. Reiki is called liquid light and has been described as a feeling of warm honey flowing through the body.
Sound healing is a form of vibrational medicine. Everything in the universe is in a state of vibration and has a signature frequency including organs, tissues and all body structures. In fact, the body can be considered an orchestra of harmonics in resonance with each other. When a person’s healthy resonant frequency is out of balance, physical and emotional health is affected.
The goal of sound therapy is to restore harmony in the system. The mechanism by which sound therapy works is called entrainment. Essentially, more powerful rhythms synchronize less powerful rhythms. Music, tuning forks, singing bowls, and drums are all tools for producing sound treatments. Treatment is believed to restore healthy balance to the body.
Sound therapy may be incorporated into other types of therapy sessions or used on its own. It may involve using music the clears Chakras, placing vibrating tuning forks on specific body points, listening to singing bowls and so forth.
